Welcome to my practice!

I'm Kayla.

I provide services to children, teenagers, adults and families

and have over 18 years of experience as a psychotherapist.

I approach therapy from an integrative theory of psychotherapy,

blending different approaches and modifying treatment based upon your unique needs.

I believe that therapy is a collaboration where we examine your concerns

with curiosity and without judgment.

I work with people who are seeking to improve their relationships with others,

searching to heal old wounds, struggle with depression, anxiety, or trauma.

I also work with children and teenagers who struggle with their emotions and behaviors.

I value working with families who are facing transitions and parents who are feeling stressed.

I’m passionate about my work and if you are looking for a

safe and affirming space to explore your struggles,

I welcome the opportunity to meet with you.

ABOUT ME
SERVICES

individual
therapy

Individual therapy for adults is a way to explore and understand your patterns of interacting and behaving. If you are feeling stuck, individual therapy will help you gain awareness and challenge those patterns with greater curiosity and compassion.

I also provide individual  therapy for children and adolescents to help with mood, relationships, and academic functioning.

Individual treatment often involves play and/or art therapy as a means of intervention.

It is my goal for family members to feel understood, respected and encouraged in this process.

family
therapy

I value the importance of family and seek to help families resolve conflicts,  improve communication and create a better functioning home environment.

Family therapy can assist families in solving problems, and understanding and managing transitions such as death, divorce, illness or changes within the family.

Family therapy is beneficial for adults and adolescents struggling with substance abuse, eating disorders and emotional and behavioral issues.

supervision

As a supervisor, I strive to collaboratively construct a safe place to creatively interact, engage in meaning-making inquiry and authentically reflect on your own unique perspective.

You will be encouraged to engage experientially and to further build upon the meaning inherent in the work.

about me

experience

I am an experienced, trauma-informed psychotherapist with over 18 years of experience. My approach to therapy marries components of psychodynamic psychotherapy with aspects of cognitive behavioral therapy using experiential methods.

I have extensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

(TF-CBT).

I have substantial experience working with survivors of childhood abuse and neglect, and helping people understand and resolve problematic patterns of thinking and behaving.

During my career, I have worked with emotionally-disturbed youth and their family systems in a Day Treatment, Residential Care and Outpatient setting. I have also worked in the Rochester community as a crisis counselor and spent 10 years working with young adults in a college counseling center.

“I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.”  ― Brené Brown
